Concept Art: The Oracle

Actually, you're more right then you know. The game is much more devious and subversive than they're willing to reveal. The game will try to entice us to doing things against our nature than we expect. The mainland isn't going to be a nice place for Avatars.

Perhaps the Oracles could turn out to be like the creator aliens in Prometheus, the titans that became worshipped as mythological fallen gods but who are still out there watching.

I like it generally, but also wondering about the mechanical fly.....hope it will not to mechanical. Being honest, I like more the medieval / ancient setting.

 

This all fits with the more advanced, steampunk technology being introduced. The Oracle provided it to the people after the Great Cataclysm. Hey, it all had to come from somewhere...

Maybe, the Oracle is the advance scout for a alien race on a dying planet seeking a new place to call home. (She only appears to be human.) Once she has remolded this planet to more resemble her home planet, her fellow aliens will arrive to find a fully built infrastructure (thanks to us) and a ready food supply (which would be us ). Nah, that couldn't be it...

 

The Oracle hasn't been mentioned in the first 5 chapters of the prelude. I wonder why?

 

That would spoil all of the revelations about her during Episode 1

 

Mechanical is fine but it can be powered by other means than steam. I hope they don't get too steampunkish but rather create something new.

 

I'm also surprised that there's no mention of "mechanical" stuff in the crafting sigils. Seems like Avatars have a lot to learn from Kobolds.

 

The color red and the cat-style eye (lidless?) are stereotypical sinister traits. A blue human-style eye, for instance, would seem friendlier and more inquisitive or curious rather than ominous. This may be done intentionally to set us on edge, or to throw us off and play on our preconditioning.

So, if the kobolds are the ones who use tech primarily, did they inherit the science from a civilization that predated the current human and kobold cultures?

In any case, super-cool, look forward to more of this!

 

Maybe every once in a while its eyes turn into the red oracle eyes as seen in the pictures. And the eyes follow you around as you move about.

 

Like some combination of:

Sun Magic - Enlightenment: Intelligence buff
Air Magic - Gust: Push target back with stun chance (can also flip switches at range)*
Air Magic - Dash: Move speed buff*
Air Magic - Air Elemental: Summons Air elemental**
Fire Magic - Flame Fist: Short Range Direct Damage with DOT***
Water Magic - Douse: Removes fire dots***
Water Magic - Summon Water Elemental: summon Water Elemental (support pet with heals & buffs)**

* magically move body parts around as needed and control their speed.

** if they can fit inside, or you can summon smaller ones. Looks like there is room for pneumatics and pistons on the spider's back (and actually the Oracle head too). Hydraulics for water elementals.

*** add a DOT to heat up some metal and make it expand, remove the DOT to cool and contract the metal, creating motion. Or at least some form of heat differential for a thermoelectric effect.

**** Throw in chaos magic for fun.

Now to figure out how to program them... Oh wait, I know. They can have a deck of cards with commands on them that are dealt out randomly, each controlling some aspect of the creature. (Said in jest and not as a remark against the combat system.)

Am I going to have to add electronics to my taming collars now?

 

The Eye of Sauron -> this was also the first thing that I thought of when I saw the shots.

On a side note, I would also prefer to see less mechanical beasts but thats just my personal opinion.

 

That would be pretty creepy!

 

And in Ep2 they introduce Tinker as a skill & I'll build me one of these

 

I love the design and detail of the concepts... and something about that bright pop of red against the dark neutral makes me giddy. I hope they do it justice within the game.
