I'm probably a fool, but can't seem to craft a pole

According to the NPC at the crafting pavilion in Owl's Head, all I need is a wood rasp and a board. I have both (4 maple boards), but can't place just one board on the carpentry table to save my life. I've been able to craft from recipes in the book by double-clicking, but can't find any affordance to move part of a pile to the table. The ones that work in the inventory and stores (i.e., double-click, select quantity) appear to be missing here.

Am I nuts, or otherwise missing something simple?

 

Hold Ctrl or Shift down when dragging. One provides a prompt, and the other moves a single item.

 

You can get the recipe for the stripper pole from the stripper in Owl's Head. She'll also polish your sword for a fee.

 

Thanks. Damn, you'd think that after operating various GUIs over the past several decades, I'd have tried something like that. Still, not the most discoverable assurance...
