The Avatar Returns.

There is an e-book out that Tracy Hickman wrote called Blade of the Avatar. You can get it in the add-on store for $15. It is a prequel to the game and it gets into the lore of the world a bit.

The really simple overview of this setting is that 400 years ago there was a cataclysm that nearly wiped all human life off the planet when two moons collided into one, called The Fall. Before The Fall there were Avatars on the planet. Some felt they were saviors. Some blame them for causing The Fall. Now we have one moon surrounded by the debris of the second, called Daedalus. And shattered pieces of the broken moon also fell to New Britannia in sites called Shardfalls, where the pieces are spreading corruption. There is a prophecy that exactly 400 years after The Fall, someone from another world will come to New Britannia and cleanse the planet. Is that a good thing or not?

The world is also filled with fomorians like Elves, Satyrs, Kobolds and Fawns. The first of their kind were humans transformed through magic into other creatures to be slaves of an old cult/empire called the Obsidian Cabal that tried to take over all of Novia (the continent of New Britannia that Episode 1 takes place in). The Obsidians seem to be gone, or are they?

There are 3 Titans, each a mysterious person of legend who has somehow lived centuries in New Britannia. They each espouse a particular virtue (Love, Truth and Courage). New Britannia also has someone named The Oracle who is constantly watching and overseeing everyone throne clockwork creatures called Watchers.

But the main plot of Episode 1 is fairly secret. Richard has said in the past that Episode 1 is about an unseen threat that is growing and discovering them.
