Royal elderberry and Immortal fruit seed vanish after use

Reproduction Rate: Happened with my elderberry. I did get two elderberries that make the dye though during the harvest.
Blocker? No, but I can't make any more purple dye.
Details: I haven't attempted to use the immortality fruit for fear of losing it permanently.

For the Elderberry seed, you have to apply the dye before the seed is placed in your inventory. For the immortality fruit, it must be consumed for the seed to appear. Have you tried this on either of these?
