More Decorative Plants in More Places

Our existing decorative plants harvested from agriculture are great for placing on ground, but can’t be placed on active planting beds and pots to make it look like they’re growing in them. Active planting beds and pots, on the other hand, can show an array of mature plants, but can’t display immature plants (for long) and can’t be placed on player-owned town land.

Now you can combine them, at least for a few plants to start.

When this project is complete, you’ll be able to use a planting trowel at a carpentry station to place any decorative plant from agriculture (immature or mature) in any planting pot or bed (including the crown store ones) to make a combined deco version. These will take less time to load than active planters, as there’s no more need to calculate the state of an active plant, and they can be placed on player-owned town land.

This release, all nine planting beds and six pots can accept immature and mature apple and banana trees, and we’ll be adding plants (starting with rose bushes) every month until all the plants are useable, including the four new decorative plants added this release (see below.) The recipes are automatically known by all and planting trowels have been added to crafting merchants with the planting pots and beds.

If you change your mind, take the pot or bed back to the carpentry table and salvage it to get the empty planter back.

Have fun playing in the dirt!

Birch Island: A Mysterious New Adventure Awaits

Work continues on the new dungeon previewed during our anniversary event and, with this update, we’ve added Birch Island to the Novia overworld map! Nestled in the far northeast, near South Hulenholt and Rhun, this island remains inaccessible while we finalize our work.

At the heart of Birch Island lies a formidable eight-level dungeon, designed to grow increasingly challenging the deeper you venture. Future expansions will introduce additional areas to explore on the island but, for now, let’s delve into its mysterious past.

The Legend of Birch Island

For centuries, treasure hunters have scoured the far northeast of Novia in search of an incredible fortune rumored to be hidden on Birch Island. Some claim the island is cursed while others believe the treasure will only be unearthed when the last birch tree has withered away.

The tale began many years ago when two brothers, fishing off the coast, spotted strange lights on the island. Curiosity drove them to row ashore where they found no sign of life, only an old tree with a pulley and a deep depression in the ground.

Intrigued, they dug and unearthed an ancient tablet inscribed with a dire warning of a curse. Dismissing it as a trick to deter treasure-seekers, they pressed on, only to break into a hidden dungeon. What they found remains unknown, for neither brother ever returned.

To this day, adventurers continue to brave the island’s dangers, hoping to unravel its dark secrets. Deep within its dungeon, known ominously as the Eighth Level of Hell, a terrifying presence awaits.

Will you be the one to break the curse and claim the treasure? Or will you, like so many before, succumb to the island’s ancient evil?

Release 134 Patch Notes

Below are a list of the updates that are live as of Release 134 in the game of Shroud of the Avatar! R134 is a content month. Content, additional improvements, and bug fixes are inbound for R135 next month. We hope you enjoy the changes that are live today as of Release 134!

Crafting, Decoration, Gear, & Inventory Item Changes:

  • Made Royal Elderberry and Immortality Fruit deco plants and gave them a chance to drop from fully-watered harvesting. SOTA-72418
  • Eternal seed growth times, watering requirements, reagent outputs, and chances for deco plants have been changed to match that of regular seeds. SOTA-72417
  • Modified snowball boxes to deliver in December, January, and February. (This is working now, but was not last release, so hurry to get your January ones before the month changes!) SOTA-71835
  • Made roasted pigs placeable as deco. SOTA-72396
  • Fixed placement of the Baroque Fountain.
  • Fixed collision for the Giant Titan of Truth Statue. SOTA-72395
  • Fixed the colors of crafted hats with the Heart Top Hat pattern when placed as deco. SOTA-70903
  • Improved textures for Valentine and Yule cards from 2016 through 2020.
  • Improved textures for Valentine Boxes from 2017 through 2019.
  • Did you know that the Snowy White Owl in the crown store was accused of messing with the timeline? Apparently the cuddly white owl was cleared of all charges and will no longer be called a Variant Owl. SOTA-70826
  • The less-cuddly (but just as cute) Baby Black Widow spider pet was in the wrong place at the same time as the Snowy White Owl and will also no longer be called a variant. SOTA-70826
  • Past fixes for skin color bugs on many pieces of gear (various pieces of Clan Gear, Augmented, Epic, and Fortified Leather Quarter Chests; the Ringmaster’s Vest, Bodice Bottoms, Bunny Slippers (both original and brown), and the Cloth Tunic) that were working on QA may have been properly applied to Live. SOTA-68146, SOTA-68719, SOTA-68835, SOTA-69111, SOTA-69506, SOTA-69507, SOTA-69508, SOTA-71208

Combat & Skill Changes:

  • Turned off the blue glow that would linger around players upon casting summon air elemental. (This is a bandage, not a proper fix, and still goes a second longer than it should.) SOTA-68612

User Interface, Store Information, Inky, & Lua Changes:

  • Fixed the /time command for Linux and Mac clients. SOTA-70437
  • Moved the store entries for the two new non-Yule Metal Street Lamps with Signs out of the Winter Holiday category.

World and Quest Changes:

  • Snow has ended for the winter. “It’s raining! Yay!” …really doesn’t have the same impact.
  • Novia: Birch Island updated and expanded offshore of the Hulenholt.
  • Ardoris: The art dealers have a daily reward for turning in 5 paintings which includes a Recall Scroll. The version they give out is now the common one and not bound. SOTA-72393
  • Blood River Outskirts: The large rolling boulder trap will now damage any players that it rolls into. SOTA-72423
  • Braemar: Fixed pink terrain.
  • Brittany Alleys: Ex-Town Crier Polly Walnuts no longer has the “lots” keyword. SOTA-72391
  • Norgard Fens: Added ramps to a raised platform to help Kobolds get up and down. Also, added some additional phrases and grunts to their combat barks and dying words. SOTA-72339
  • Port Harmony: Fixed a “grumbled” typo in the “Destroy 5 Green Crates” journal entry. SOTA-72400
  • Port Harmony: Removed unnecessary text from the “bye” response for Annora Jenkins. SOTA-72421
  • The Rise. Fixed a torch that wasn’t displaying flames. Also, regenerated path grid. SOTA-72410
  • Solace Bridge Outskirts: Fixed an issue where “gear” was sometimes appearing twice in Kinsey’s keywords. Also, fixed a typo in guard responses about Preston. SOTA-72399, SOTA-72409
  • Tanglemire: Erla sometimes rewards players with a Recall Scroll. The version she gives out is now the common one and not bound. SOTA-72393
  • Tenebris Harbor: Fixed a large hole that allowed players to go outside the playspace and get stuck. SOTA-72403
  • Ulfheim: Fixed an issue where the default spawn-in target was being listed twice in the overworld access list (as “Default” and as “Southwest Entrance”). Now, when multiple spawn-in locations for Ulfheim are unlocked, the default target will display as “Southwest Entrance (Default).” SOTA-72323
  • Vertas Pass: Added blockers on either side of the guard tower adjacent to the platform and shifted the tornado slightly to cover in front of the building to the right of the guard tower.
  • Well of Aldur: Adjusted collision and added dirt piles on “wyvern platform” to avoid players getting stuck between platform plates. SOTA-72422

Player-Owned Town Changes:

  • Frogtown Market: Upgraded to Town.
  • Jade Gardens: Upgraded to City.
  • Kyoto: Added new island northeast of Castle Atos.

Bug Brigade & Testing Directives!

The Bug Brigade was established to improve how the community and the development team work together to improve the game. Since the Brigade’s inception, the program has gone through a number of changes and was eventually placed on hold. The stability of the game is as important to the development team as it is to the players, therefore the program was revamped and was relaunched.

The Brigade has been up and running and the volunteers (Alley Oop, Echondas, Flair Minamoto, and Justyn) are in a good rhythm for verifying and submitting bugs to the developers. If you have reported a bug that has not yet been addressed, please be patient while the backlog is being worked. The Brigade is working diligently to clean up the backlog of bug reports posted by players on the forums.

Every month, a considerable amount of development time will be spent working many of the verified bugs which have been submitted to the team by the Bug Brigade. This focused effort on bug fixes would not be possible without the recent efforts of the Bug Brigade. Please take the time to thank these bug hunting aficionados when you encounter them in your travels!

In turn, the development team would like to express a big thank you to the Bug Hunters! These community members are doing a fantastic job bringing so many bug reports to the team, and they’re doing it in a way which makes the process smooth and efficient. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Much improvement has been noticed by the development team and we’re so very excited to see the program’s continued success!

The development team would also like to thank all of those who take time to participate in QA Testing Directives. Thanks to your hard work and dedication, many issues and bugs can be identified and fixed prior to content going to the Live Server! Keep up the great work! For those that wish to participate in future bug hunting endeavors, please check the forums regularly for upcoming QA Testing Directives.

Don’t forget, the Bug Brigade is open to all players in good standing and bug rewards are SWEET! They will be awarded on a monthly progression basis with only minimal requirements to qualify. The available rewards to receive in progression via qualifying participation are as follows:

Project to Support: Shard RPG

Shard Studios invites you to enter the fantastic world Dárdünah, the vast shard of a shattered realm, as presented in the colorful pages of the SHARD RPG! Many years in the making, this system allows players to choose from a wide variety of animal people who are the main cast of the many adventures this otherworldly setting offers. Skyships glide through shimmering clouds past majestic crystal peaks. Giant insects prowl alien jungles or lurk in the sparkling emerald seas. Warriors with blades of diamond and amber duel across crimson sands. And mystics chant in shadowy chambers as their spirits wander abroad.

  • Intro Sheet: For a quick glimpse into the world of Dárdünah, be sure to download the intro pdf! It’s packed with great information and features beautiful artwork, not unlike the artwork found throughout the many pages of this gaming system’s gorgeously designed manuals.
  • Core System Manuals: It’s easier than ever to delve into Dárdünah, World of the False Dawn, with the Basic Compendium and the Magic and Martial Arts books! They contain everything you need to begin your adventures, and include instructions for the ritual magic and martial arts combat systems.
