I'd like this thread to be open to all feedback for the village of Braemar.

There's one thing I thought odd about Braemar: No access to any water source? How do they survive without water?

A brook cascading with a waterfall in a corner of the zone would suffice,
or a small spring where wildlife gather to drink, bubbling up near a large stone outcropping.

If there are no natural sources of water, the town should have a well.

*Without water, we can't make Ale, and without Ale, we can't survive!

I thought it was a little plain, but nice for the few buildings that are there.

I like the concept (players will be deciding the layout) somewhat.. Can't really picture what the end result will be..

I really enjoyed the atmosphere. That foggy mist (or misty fog?) added a lot to the mood of this seemingly out of the way village. It could be a little bigger though..there wasn't much to explore.

It seemed primarily a place to put a village home. I saw a lot of empty village lots. I'm sure once we are into beta, Braemer will be bigger, with more npcs and hopefully a few town lots. I think that village is a perfect fit for a druid house!

I hadn't thought of that but now you mention it it is very strange there is no water source!

I thought Braemar is a very nice place to be, I found the largest group of ppl there, and Yes, they need a community Well or Spring somewhere. I would Love to place my plot there, but was wondering if it would ever be possible to take down the fencing around plots or at least change the look of the fencing. Just a thought.

It's a good point, but there aren't exactly fields of plants and pens of livestock around either. Hell, Kingsport is on the ocean. Unless they can refine salt water, they're in the same "boat".

Yes, I saw the pigs and chickens, but they're not exactly domesticated, are they?

Actually one thing I thought is that the woods should be far darker at night. I would like to see it get really dark, especially in the dense tree and bushes areas.

They might travel to an adjacent hex :> Some places people would have the job of walking to and from a stream carrying water. Streams in some of the wilderness hexes would be neat though, as well as seeing people actually in the process of carrying the water.

    • Town 3: A third municipality opens up (the tiny forest village of Braemar). This is a new type of village that starts tiny and overgrown. The forest gradually becomes cleared out as it becomes more populated.

My impression from this statement made is that Braemar is still incomplete. Therefore, I really can't comment on it in its present form. I do, however, like the idea of a small village in the middle of the forest.

The forest needs ambient sounds... birds chirping during the day, owls at night.

Well, I believe that river leading into the ocean in King'sport would be freshwater. ;-) Of course, being able to add some livestalk/farm options for player housing is a must I think.. especially for our own player-made towns!

I thought of this too, redfish. It could work of course, if they add a water wagon, that takes kegs of water to town regularly, then maybe the undead could be threatening their water source since it is away from town and unprotected! :D

Rather than water wagons, I'm thinking either this,

    Or this,

    [IMG] [IMG]

Or a mix of the two,

Second style I find mainly in 18th-19th c paintings, first is in medieval re-enactment. But I'm pretty sure peasant women used water jugs.

yes, they need a water well or a spring of some sort. This kind of detail keeps one immersed in the game.

I like this concept as well but it can really be butchered with the variety of player housing. I can just see a bunch of windmills popping up in the middle of the forest.

I agree with Mike11 and Ferrus. It takes a village of people getting together and deciding the layout before building their houses.. and I think the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Then you don't know the folks from Paxlair. The've had a player-run town in UO since 1998. There are a number of them here and are planning to do exactly that. Hopefully find an area we can set roots down and build up. Should be fun in placement, but all that is yet to be revealed.
