yeah i agree i dont think trainers or quest givers should be kill-able, or able to fight, and should be kept out of battles. So something should come up on your screen , if you try to attack a quest giver or healer that says.... "you cannot attack this person"!

Don't forget that a lot of free access keys were given out for R5 - I'm sure there were a bunch of new players who have no pledges yet, taking a look around for the first time. Perhaps some of these people were the ones killing everything in sight just to see what was possible, or because they were bored, or for whatever other reason they may have had.

I played a MUD just where they were very very strong but if enough big players got together in a group they could take it down, of course all the guards came running and it got a bit bigger.

And the shopkeepers would eventually respawn anyways so no lasting harm. Of course in a mud it's easy to pack 20-30-100 people in a room. It gets spammy but there's no space issues and no trouble hitting the boss.

Ok, so this explains why the Crafting vendor kept disappearing and why all the chickens were dead in the streets. I thought the game was showing some odd bugs. It's not going to be a very good game if you can go around and kill the vendor and ruin the game for everyone else who's online. I don't know if there should be negative consequences for killing NPCs and other in-game creatures or smashing the hell out of the town, but it shouldn't be that your actions interfere with my game. Go smash your "sandbox" to pieces if that's your thing, but keep me out of it. It was pretty obvious there is a large population of people who want to "grief" the system. This is the very reason I've never gotten into MMOs. People act like jerks in real life, I don't need to see that continued over into a game where the entire point is to be entertained and suspend belief.

For R6 and beyond, I'll do what I ended up doing in R5: Stay in multi-player to help others as best I can, then go to single-player when it comes time to interact with NPC's.

Looks like we need to set up a guild of player healers/guards to stay in towns to keep the npcs alive.

I'm starting to hate Outlanders as much as the NPCs.

People act like jerks in MMO's because, unlike real life, there are no real consequences.

It's an MMO. That behavior is going to exist. There's nothing to do about it. It comes with the territory.

It's like munchkins and rules lawyers in tabletop. It's gonna happen.

If I was interested in LARP there would probably be some analogy there too.
