It just doesn't make any sense to use meters in-game.. for example.. human characters in unity are 2 meters tall. There's also no lore base for using the metric system.

I know this game isn't 'historical', but our metric system came about in response to a specific problem, and it stands to reason that a similar problem would need to occur in New Britannia's history (or future) for such a system to come about there.

Also, even with problems known, the new system wouldn't take hold until a huge political upheaval (it took a revolution of the seated government in Europe). Only when new entities take power and people are looking for change, are drastic transitions like this accepted by a society.

We all know that New Britannia is made up of a disparate collection of war-states, each with its own intrinsic economy. The people of each region largely stay within its borders, and the only far-reaching entity known is the Oracle, which hasn't shown interest in the trading of goods, or seats of power, but is more of a religious-like sect that influences moral and ethical discussion - things which cannot be quantified and measured in a traditional sense.

Only when the various powers that be unify, share a common currency and the regional economies become one, will the need for standardized units of measurement come about.

I could see Lord British taking power, unifying the world and the races within it, and beginning to implement a metric-like system over the course of the 5 episodes though. ;-)

The only problem I have with this is he's already done the whole rule the known world gig for several hundred years and never saw fit to implement the metric system. :)

Yes well, this New Britannia is much more advanced than the old Britannia.. clock-punk gear heads in Britanny may need to standardize their tesla clamps to be compatible with Valhold's aether disrupters some day..
