I hope there will be at least one more craftable version in game, something a tad more elegant/fancy than the two you show. I understand add on store necessity but give us another style for to match some of the more refined houses in game without having to spend real cash.

otherwise, all look pretty spiffy. sorry i didn't read through the thread, but what are the craftable resources needed like?

Sweet! I believe the darker ornate fireplace will be in order.

A house is not a home until it has a fireplace in it! I'm so excited to see these in game soon. When will they be available?

Edit: I should have read the previous posts. Just saw R34 for fireplaces. Can't wait!

Glad to see these items go in. They will add lots of visual customization potential for houses.

Just hopefully not too much so. Will there be houses made of chimneys?

    fantastic work Scotty.

My problem (which probably has a simple resolution) is that I have a fireplace in my "tower (town)" house, but it is in the center of the room (for lack of another good place for a Lord Marshal fireplace)... I suppose my fireplace is magical because there is no feasible chimney that could go up through the center of my tower without being an eyesore.

Is it possible for us to also have the option to make the fireplace give off a clearly magical flame (blue, orange, purple, black, white or some trippy combination of colored flame etc) so that viewers of the fireplace can feel at home without worrying about physics? ***Some how I would guess that black fire would be popular for those who like creepy stuff like vampires, dark witches, and necromancers. Perhaps for Halloween spook decor too.***

I wonder... how many fireplaces I can stick inside one home?

Also I'd love to see a dark texture applied to one of these (very nice) fireplace models so they could be placed inside a kobold home or obsidian tower and not clash too much.

Still, what we've been shown is excellent and will do nicely! :)

Thanks!!! I'm in the middle of making a darker "ornate cast iron" one right now for the add-on store that may fit the bill for the darker houses....

I love the idea of differently-colored special effects,...but since the effects pass is directly attached to the prefab, it would take an entirely new "system" of code to be created to allow all the different possible FX "packages" (which would need to be created and tweaked individually to look good) all to be attached to each one of the fireplace hearth pieces, with a special set of code requirement to allow us to switch between those FX packages and "set" them as the particular one for that purpose.... I'm betting that won't be approved, since we still have a lot of core content to finish.

One cool thing to come out of the new pieces, though, is that you should be able to stack the chimney bits on top of the Lord Marshal Great Hearth now to allow it to pass through the ceiling!

And if all goes well, we may even get them in within the next few builds!

I'm wondering if someone could put the fireplace in the basement, run a chimney to the roof of the basement and then "ballpark" where the chimney would come up through the floor of the home and build more chimney up through the top of the home.

I guess my question would be, can you use these items in a basement? :)

Oh sure! You can totally place these in the basements! It may just take some extra extension pieces to allow for a super deep basement plus a super tall house...

Here's another work in progress update:

Rick was here way too late this evening, along with me, hooking up all the pieces I have finished, which I'll be testing tomorrow, to insure they all work as good as the first set did (visually and functionally)...

And here's the look of the Ornate Cast Iron Fireplace (which will have a large and small version, much like the other two "ornate" sets)... I'm not quite done with it, and have a bit more model and texture changes to make, and the FX pass to add,...but this is essentially it in Max, rendered out before I finish all the maps and get it imported... It'll look even better once I have the normal and specular maps on there!

    Enjoy! ^_^
