For lockpicking to work we need the counterpart profession which is locksmithing. Custom locks should be craftable & even enchantable/Mastercraftable and the same should apply to lockpicking tools.

What would be the defense against the lock picking? If it's against a player but they player can do nothing to prevent the lock picking then it's still lock picking a computer. A counter skill was suggested by someone already:
But it still has no player interaction. It's not PvP.

PvP is consensual in SotA, forever and always. If people must unflag every time they log out to prevent their houses from being looted. They will. If they get burglaries every time they flag while not defending their house. They will never flag.

Don't get your hopes up for non consensual lock picking "PvP" while people are logged. No one will support this.
"The PVP system needs more." is the thread title. Does this topic not fit that title?

Oh - I did understand that this whole mechanic would play out in PvP zones (including POTS). But the fun &profit possibilities are all there - even for PvE players.

Who wouldn't want to be known as the best lockmaker in SOTA? It's another good way of breaking down the walls without violating the consensual nature of PVP in this game.

You know that house breakins and looting chests within player owned houses will never be allowed in this game... If i remember correctly even in UO house breakins mostly had been based on bugs/exploits or lost or stolen keys.

How can someone be the best lock picker? What's the % chance at success that should be required? How many times can someone attempt to pick a lock?

Even a .0001% chance can succeed given time. Will the lick picker be able to pick away while people are off line?

Way too many ways to end with bad design.

Start thinking of the target and how to make lock picking fun for them. If that's possible then there might be a game for PvP. Only looking at things from the lock picker's perspective is a dead end.

10,000 heads left on your floor and your house left barren. Fun times.

Depends on the implementation. With the current player base you would wish for 10.000 heads.

And we all know that house breakins will not be implemented anyway......

Of course not but simply telling someone that doesn't lead them to understanding why.

No, it doesn't. If you read the OP actual post...

... you will see that this thread has been hijacked.

This discussion (and any constructive communication among players) is great. I am not against that. But when threads are derailed, communication and progress on the topic is hindered if not halted altogether, which defeats the point of having a thread (and a forum) to begin with.
