Yes, this may be the issue which has been vexing the devs in regards to how to handle PvP in-game.

So which instance do *you* get sorted into when you enter that instance ?

Do you get sorted based on your current party, and possibly end up in a Guild PvP instance in which you can not aid. Or is your party split, and you get sorted into another non-PvP instance separate from your companion ?

I am under the presumption that the two warring guilds would not want any outside interference in their conflict, otherwise they would simply "declare war" against your guild as well and add them into the conflict.

Or pray-tell, is it all a free-for-all, where everyone gets sorted into the best instance regardless of PvP status ? So, you could have fighters from guilds duking it out to which you cannot aid, fighters from guilds you are in conflict with, and non-PvP players all running around on the same instance.

    That would be very messy.

I think it would be unfortunate that you could not join an instance with your friend. But equally to be unable to help friend.. Puzzle indeed.

Two guilds probably don't want interference, but sometimes, that happens.. (Should be allowed to anyway, at a cost)
In my ideal scenario, Where I can help friend. If I did, I could become marked as an ''aggressor'' to that guild, they could choose to war my guild if it came down to it in revenge.
Or, I could just remain flagged to them until one or some of them kill me.
edit: Of course, only possible with elements of Open PvP.

Your last FFA scenario is indeed messy, but it would just be reality.
Where it gets messy in my mind is not being able to jump in.

Yes, and that was where the whole idea of whether you would get sorted into the same instance at all comes into play.

If you cannot see the PvP action (because you are not part of that particular conflict), then the moral dilemma never arises.

But as you noted, you are then impeded from joining your friend while visiting the hex.

Another alternative is that both of you get sorted into a non-PvP instance, due to you being partied together, and you are totally unaware of the PvPers on the hex.

    ----

Should be interesting to see what the devs have in mind for this sort of system.

I would think that if resources are easier to gather in PVE without the worry of PVP intervention, the concept of "special" resource or item balances out the tables, It wont be easy for us PVP to gather resources if were capable of being attacked by others as well as monsters, you wont have to worry about anyone rolling up on you for resources!

"would you like to join the guild war?" 1 for yes 2 for no problem solved on first hit! or Nraas's option bot in a non pvp hex! I like that idea too.

Ya but then I could just go around joining everyone's wars.. wouldn't that become open PvP?
edit: wouldn't I have to declare war on you and have you accept and declare war on me in return?

You "inviting" yourself to a guild battle may be against the rules of engagement for the Guild war itself, since they may not want outsiders involved.

Perhaps the Guilds could state whether non-Guild members can join in when they initially declare the war.

    Interesting idea. :)

I definitely don't want to be forced to join a guild to PvP . I hope the quests and PvP Hexes are done well enough to suffice. Better yet a dedicated PvP server and be done with all the arguing.

Do they really feel that way about me personally or do they feel that way about the PvP crowd?

People with a nasty attitude towards others who like to play a different style. not better or worse, just different.

    and i quote :

'I'm past the point of wanting to be on the same server as the PvE crowd whether I can see them or not...just knowing they are there somewhere finger banging my economy is more than I can stand.'

there is much more to pve than what you have described here, just as there is much more to pvp than is sometimes described.

True, that's why I was referring to it as a Whole and not making personal attacks....and speaking for myself.

What you did was make a personal attack on me on behalf of everyone.

No problem though I didn't take it personally, thick skin comes with being a pvper.

Yes I realize that now, but my remark did not break forum rules.
